INTERVIEW On Constant
Jammin' with N. Edmonds.
NE - When was
your first love for Reggae music. CJ - It all started from my
father who is from Antigua and came to England in 1954.
My father William Constant was working in USA New Orleans in 51
- 53 picking fruit. During this time he was listening to Blues
and Boogie Woogie, my father was a good dancer. I was born in
Oxford 1959 and grew up listening to 78rpm records...which were
Beep Bop, Blues and cut up Calypso. During the 60's my father's
taste went more on a Ska level, he used to follow a sound system
called SONY DOWNBEAT. Reggae came into the home on Trojan & Pama
LP's in the late 60's early 70's...My love for this new sound
blew my mind. Whilst at senior school I met a friend named Peter
May, together we built a sound system called JAH ADDIS when we
left school in 1976.
NE - Why bring
out a record label ?................... CJ - I believe I have
some kind of spirit in me ready to share with the world. Music
runs through my blood, I even dream about music, sometimes
talking in my sleep about music.
NE - How do you
know if a tune is good ?............... CJ - I feel a good tune
is the over all vibe, not just the song or singer, the beat
needs to reach you and the vibes must have feeling. Nuff
singer's can sing but that is not everything, flavour is the
master. |
